Help save the world’s rhinos

topic: Hunting & Poaching
type: Campaign, Donation, NGO
by: Quinta Thomson

A rhino is poached every 22 hours on average. These shocking statistics are an obvious explanation as to why two rhino species have fewer than 80 animals left.

Save the Rhino is an NGO that is committed to their title. With a 4-part plan of protecting rhinos, reducing illegal trade, engaging communities and bringing experts together, it aims to save this endangered animal.

In the last decade, more than 1,000 rangers worldwide have lost their lives protecting rhinos. Within their plans to protect rhinos, Save the Rhino ensures that rangers risking their lives daily have the kit they require to carry out their work. From provisions like a good pair of shoes to detection dogs, the NGO uses a variety of methods to obstruct poachers.

Importantly, the NGO recognises and highlights the illegal horn trade in their strategy. By viewing the trade, which is thriving in countries such as Vietnam and China, as the root cause of poaching, Save the Rhino employs modern and innovative methods to obstruct poaching. One of these is a cutting-edge social marketing initiative that aims to myth-bust many beliefs about Rhino horn and put consumers off, thus disrupting the market.

If you want to get involved with the fight to save rhinos, the website offers a variety of opportunities. From events and fundraising ideas to joining ‘the herd’ as a member or becoming a partner - you can choose any level of interaction to join the community.
