Martial law has been imposed in Thailand, handing the military supreme power and threatening the human rights of Thai citizens.
Amnesty International is reporting that several news media outlets have been shut down since martial law came into play yesterday, as a result of months of political turmoil which have claimed 28 lives so far.
The military insisted they were not staging a coup, but attempting to restore order, inviting both sides of the heated political discourse to negotiate.
Among the military's new powers include the ability to confiscate property and to search and detain people without a warrant. As well as this, the military will have impunity if citizens claim compensation as a result.
